My Letter
Dear friend Eurico Monteiro,
Very sincerely to tell you that I always read your writings very carefully, even if I disagree with some of them, natural, moreover, in a democracy! They are dense texts, very well written and give me pleasure when I read them! However, your text about my sorrows left me a little apprehensive. It's just that, from your appointment as Ambassador in Lisbon, you become our (of the State, of all of us) representative. Including Silvi da Luz, Olívio Pires, Onsimo Silveira, Arnaldo Andrade, Madalena Neves and all the politicians, I presume that from both parties (in these cases you can no longer, at least there should be no discrimination on your part, you are already an Ambassador, dear friend ), disguised as career diplomats! Now, by the way, I understand the meaning of some of the exonerations! From now on, there will, of course, be discrimination against diplomats based on their presumption of being close to this or that party! Targets beware!
In fact, since Independence, they were appointed Political Ambassadors, in fact in 1975 we didn't even have a diplomatic career. However, from 2011 onwards, when the President of the Republic refused the appointment of Mário Matos, whose choice had been approved by President Pedro Pires, as he already had the consent of the Spanish Government, for reasons that we all know, we stopped proposing Political Ambassadors, leaving , in 2016, only Madalena Neves. Although I see now that some senior diplomats are presumed politicians, I think it is very dangerous for the President of the Republic to embark on this tortuous path. I very much hope that the latest dismissals are not based on these markedly persecutory assumptions! Renewing my congratulations, I wish you, dear Eurico Monteiro, many successes in your lofty duties as Ambassador of Cape Verde in Portugal!
