Brava: Edil relies on government solidarity for the development of the island

Nova Sintra, 22 June 2016 - The mayor of Brava said he was counting on the solidarity and political and strategic engagement of the new government so that the island can effectively integrate itself into the regional, national and global context.

Speaking during the formal session of commemorative activities for the municipality of Brava and the patron saint of São João Baptista, which takes place on June 24, Orlando Bala listed some works that he considers structuring to leverage the island's economy and which, in his view, have been condemned by the policy of the previous government.
Brava Airport, alternative port in Fajã D'Água, Nova Sintra-Nossa Senhora do Monte road, resolution of the problem of water scarcity, implementation of an exemplary sanitation system in the collection and treatment of solid waste, as well as the construction of a reference hospital were listed as works designed to leverage the development of the island.
For this, he considered that Brava must count, in this new political cycle, on the "necessary positive discrimination" by the government, having stated that it has been receiving encouraging signs, convinced that the times to come will be of loyal and exemplary cooperation between central and local powers.
According to Orlando Bala, there is an increasing need to take advantage of the potential of the different islands, in order to release the creative energy, especially of young people, "eager for knowledge, culture, employment and a dignified life ".
He guaranteed that the municipal government he represents is available to create the internal and local conditions to attract investment and take advantage of all existing human resources, regardless of their political color or social or religious background, with a high sense of mission and responsibility.
The mayor assured that Brava can and should be seen with different eyes and that it is able to promote historical-cultural tourism, ecotourism and health with high added value.
With this strategy, he explained, Brava can contribute to expanding the market and making its economy viable in the regional context, with direct impacts on improving the quality of life of populations, access to employment and income.
As a balance of his governance, the mayor accused the previous government of having substantially reduced the value of program contracts, claiming that while in the 2008-2012 season, the previous city council team received an average of around 37 billion escudos per year, his cast earned an average of around 11 million escudos during this mandate.
"I dream of a Brava, where everyone can carry out their life project. We are all summoned to this new cycle of hopes and achievements, which should include and rely on all Brava residents, on the islands and in the diaspora", concluded Commander Orlando Bullet.
