Brava: MpD and PAICV benches with opposite readings on city council management
Nova Sintra, 22 June 2016 - The MpD bench calls for a period of sacrifices for all Brave residents so that the island ceases to be "the most backward in the country", but the PAICV leader accuses the city council policy of promoting regression .
João Paulo Silva, leader of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), local authority in Brava, said that this sacrifice must be alien to all distinctions of class, fortune or political beliefs.
It urges political parties to carry out a “broad pedagogical action of unity and alert” to the need for Brava to have a set of factors that will boost its growth.
Even so, he considered that the island has advanced in all areas and that people's quality of life has improved, in order to envision a better future.
He considers it important to improve access for communities, in order to better distribute their production, and asked for more incentives so that local producers can increase their income, and at the same time expand and improve the three-phase network for the entire municipality.
Meanwhile, Carlos Costa, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), said that in recent years Brava has gained with the Government's efforts, highlighting works such as the modernization of the port of Furna, the asphalting of the access to new Sintra and Eugénio Tavares high school among others.
He highlighted how community associations "have been working for the development of this island", and said he was convinced that everyone is united for the progress of the island, regardless of political issues.
However, he understands that Brava has been experiencing a “regression never seen before”, with the “displacement” of young people to other islands, and accuses the municipality of not having a solution for the problems of residents, especially the youngest.
