Brava: ICCA sensitizes the community on the risks of minors staying in inappropriate places

The delegation of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA), in Brava, today carried out an awareness-raising action in the streets of Nova Sintra on the permanence of minors in inappropriate places.

Technician Mileida Cabral explained, in statements to Inforpress, that this awareness-raising action is part of the programming that the delegation made for the month of June, but also to draw the attention of parents and guardians about responsibility with their children.

According to the same source, activities alluding to the Municipality's Day and the patron saint's day, São João Baptista, are taking place, with various night activities in which minors cannot be present.

This awareness-raising action also covered stalls, the fish market, the municipal market and some commercial establishments for the non-permanence and non-sale of alcoholic beverages to minors.

Mileida Cabral advanced that the insistence has always been to press not to leave minors at risk, but also to show that the ICCA is alert to any situation and always available to act.

However, he stressed that much of the information he was able to collect at the sites is that "there have been several minors in night activities, mainly at dances and in tents, and that the National Police has not supervised these activities to prevent the entry of minors".

Asked about ICCA's next steps or actions, the technician announced that they will continue to work on these actions and try to reinforce them.

But, he also intends to “insist” with his superiors on the need to reinforce the office on the island both in terms of human and material resources, mainly in a means of transport.

He took the opportunity to alert the population to the need to raise awareness and each one to do their part as parents and guardians, as they have to know that they are responsible for educating, protecting, caring and guaranteeing the full development of children and adolescents , emphasizing that it is not the ICCA or the National Police that have this responsibility.
